GROCERY STORES

. There is a tiny grocer directly across the street on Rue du Courty. Very limited inventory but plenty of bottled beverages, snacks, and some produce. There are two neighborhood grocery stores on Rue Bourgogne (10 minute walk)which is around the corner from the apartment.  There is a  small grocery (Huit a Huit)  on Rue de Universite across Blvd. St. Germain near Solferino (10 minute walk). There is a A large Monoprix super marche is about a 20 minute walk up Blvd. St. Germain to Saint German des Pres at Rue de Rennes around the corner from Brasserie Lipp. There are two food emporiums-the St. Germain de Pres Market and the Bon Marche Department Store Market. Both are incredible food emporiums with great prepared foods, bakeries, produce, etc. and prices to go with it.

24 HOUR and SUNDAY-When everything else is closed the store behind the Shell service station on Rue Raspail stocks all the necessities-milk,juice, cheese bread,wine, beer, pre-made sandwiches, pastas, On Sunday, Rollet Pradier(see below)has baked goods and prepared take-out dishes.There is also a small grocery at Rue Bellechasse and Rue St. Dominque open on Sunday morning.

LA GRAND EPICERIE DE PARIS A BON MARCHE, 38 rue de Sevres, Metro: Sevres-Babylone, 7th arr. Tel: (0) 1-44-39-80-00. This is an incredible gourmet food emporium like the gourmet food hall at Galeries Lafayette or Hediard or Fauchon but it’s in the 7th arrondissement. Produce, cheese, wine, prepared foods, charcuterie, patisserie, chocolats, pain, spices, coffees and teas, and lots of canned, bottled, and packaged food. There is an American food section for those of you who can’t live without something from home.

*DEBAUVE & GALLAIS, 30 rue de Saint-Peres, Metro: St. Germain de Pres, 7th arr. (0)1-45-48-54-67. This is the oldest chocolate shop in Paris and the building is a public national monument. The displays of chocolate are magnificent and the chocolates themselves are each a gem. Expensive but go ahead and splurge. The shop is just a short walk up Boulevard St. Germain.

Barthélémy's tiny shop is a haven for cheese lovers, where no more than three customers constitutes a crowd. Every square inch of shelf and counter space is laden with the finest cheeses — predominantly French — each matured to perfection.
Legendary rounds of Vacherin only appear in winter, while buttons of chèvre (goat's cheese) coated in cumin, paprika, pepper, raisins, nuts, cinnamon, and caraway are prepared downstairs year-round, and there's always a raw milk camembert, heady brie or blue on hand. There are cheese trays perfect for dinner parties, too. The shop also stocks a small selection of wines, jams, yoghurts, biscuits and chutney.

Marie-Anne inherited the passion and the know-how of an affineur from her father, the noted Christian Cantin — founder in 1950 of the Cantin cheese house in Paris, and initiator of the Cheese house guild. She does not hesitate to declare that she was "born in cheese".
Since opening her own Paris boutique in 1982, Cantin's reputation has expanded. Appointed supplier of the Elysée Presidential Palace and a favorite provider to some of the most famous restaurants and connoisseurs, she regularly receives awards in gastronomic guides, food magazines and newspapers around the world. In 1988, she founded the Association Pour le Respect des Traditions Fromagères Françaises (ARTFF), and currently serves as its president.
Depending on the season, the Cantin store displays between 130 to 150 different varieties of cheese, 40 to 50 of which are chèvres (goat cheese). They are acquired from carefully selected producers, ripened in Cantin's own cellars, and tended with great devotion during their maturation process.

SADAHARU AOKI

Sadaharu Aoki, 35 Rue de Vaugiraud, 6th ; 56 Blvd. du Port-Royal, 5th. Integrates Japanese flavors with French pastries. Favorites include green tea or black sesame eclairs; Macarons such as yuzu praline, or a traditional french vanilla Millefeuille.

PAIN de SUCRE

Pain de Sucre ( 14 Rue Bambuteau, 3rd Arr.) Diddier Mathray and Nathalie Robert. The Clara eclair is a mint-infused chocalte filling, the Jambiani is flavored with passion fruit pulp and salted butter caramel. Their baba au rum comes with a small vial of rum for pouring over the cake.

Ble Sucre (7 Rue Antoine-Vollon, 12th Arr.)Proprietor is Fabrice Le Bourdat, formerly of the Le Bristol Hotel. Favorites are the lemon tart, the Aligre with layers of coconut dacquoise, coconut sabayon and conit pineapple.

ICE CREAM

Berthillon- Berthillon is a famous manufacturer and retailer of traditional, home-made ice cream, with its primary store on the Île Saint-Louis in Paris, France. The company is owned and operated by the Chauvin family, descendants of the eponymous Monsieur Berthillon, who opened the first store in 1954.
Berthillon sells its ice cream in bulk and by the scoop from its shop on the island, but many other retailers in Paris sell its ice cream in cones and cups, and some grocers sell larger amounts.
Berthillon fame derives in part from its use of natural ingredients, with no chemical preservatives, sweeteners or stabilizers. Its ice creams are made from milk, cream and eggs. Flavourings derive from natural sources (cocoa, vanilla, fruit, etc.).
