EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
FIRE
The apartment is equipped with a sixth floor smoke detector. In addition, there are three fire extinguishers, one in
the sixth floor hall closet (water heater),one in the sixth floor bedroom, and one in the seventh floor kitchen cabinet next
to the refrigerator. There is also an emergency escape ladder in the sixth floor hall closet (water heater).
There is one interior escape route in the building-down the central staircase and out through the lobby. The emergency
escape ladder provides a second means from the sixth floor but only in the case of a true fire emergency when the central
staircase is not an alternative.
Should a fire develop
outside the apartment, first check the front door to be sure it isn’t hot before opening it. If there is smoke coming
from under the front door, take damp towels or sheets and stuff them under the door. If there is already smoke in the apartment
stay low and move around by crawling on the floor.
The
emergency escape ladder has metal hooks which can be hooked to the radiator in either the salon or the bedroom. It is 5 or
6 stories in length and should allow one to get down to another safe level or the street. From the Seventh Floor, an alternative
exit is through the large window in the kitchen and out on to the roof of the building.
